Manchester United League Cup Victory, Lesson for Everyone
Congratulations Manchester United for lifting the Carabao cup(League Cup) 2023.Hands down, it doesn't matter which English premier league I support. They won and deserved the trophy, thanks to 'ruthless' Marcus Rashford, and Maestro Casemiro and the entire team, because soccer is arguably teamwork. Oooh, not forgetting Erik Ten Hag, Manchester United coach, who has been, consistent, persistent and pivotal to the red hot Manchester united, currently on top form, and delivering impressive results.
At the same time, me as a soccer fan I'm left wondering, what has Erik Ten Hag done to reinvent this club? A club that was recently on its knees and only thinking of trophies from an imagination point of view? Anyway those are questions for another day.
However, I'm against the notion that if I support a particular team, like Tottenham Hotspurs for example, I must be bitter when other teams win a match or even a trophy. My thinking is, soccer locally and internationally unites people from diverse cultures. I may be a Kenyan and you are Ethiopian for example, but this doesn't matter, because we support one team or we both love soccer and so aren't we one? My take is, we are.
Then why feel bitter when another team wins and yours loses? Why are we so self centred, that we must always have things our way or wish others bad luck, precisely other soccer teams. How I wish we move from this kind of thinking and rejoice whenever a team plays well and strives to win trophies.
Let's enjoy soccer or whichever sport you like, without clenching fists and wrinkling our faces. The game itself, is bigger than our individual desires. There is no need to lose your mind, just because this team is currently doing well while ours isn't, right? Food for thought.
